1.1 Background of the Study
Finding shortest distance in power distribution is vital and a basic problem in communication, transportation networks, circuit design, bioinformatics, Internet node trac, social networking and graph analysis in general computer networking systems. In particular, in the context of planning and scheduling finding shortest distance is important to solve a set of binary linear constraints on events.
The ability to use low-cost distance in networks has practical consequences for knowledge discovery and social network analysis tasks. Many analytic algorithms for networks needs to find shortest distance of power distribution, but exact methods for search become prohibitive for large networks, and data sets are continuously increasing in size. Short distance can be used efficiently by using an index of network structure, which states network distances and enables rapid discovery of short paths.
Many vital knowledge discovery and social network analysis tasks needs computing network properties and statistics. Shortest distance of power distribution is an important measure for various applications (e.g., communication or transportation networks), as it provides a guaranteed upper bound on the distance length between any two nodes. Closeness centrality (Freeman 1979) provides a measure of the proximity of a node to all other nodes in a network. Closeness centrality is a major useful for research in information propagation in which a message must quickly reach all nodes in a network. Between centrality is a measure commonly found in social network analysis as it can identify the most critical nodes in a network.
The Electric Power Sector is one of the most important sectors to national development. The power sector is critical to the developmental reform of any country. To discuss the electric power sector in Nigeria in a realistic way, an appraisal of its development since independence is necessary in this study. Electricity supply in Nigeria dates back to 1886 when two small generating sets were installed to serve the then Colony of Lagos. By an Act of Parliament in 1951, the Electricity Corporation of Nigeria (ECN) was established, and in 1962, the Niger Dams Authority (NDA) was also established for the development of Hydro Electric Power. However, a merger of the two was made in 1972 to form the National Electric power Authority (NEPA), which is a of building unbundling and the power reform process, was renamed Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company of Nigeria (PHCN) in 2005 controlled by the President Olusegun Obasanjo who signed the Power Sector Reform Bill into law, enabling private companies to participate in electricity generation, transmission, and distribution.
